Job Description

Daystar Power Group is a Pan-African provider of solar and hybrid power solutions, offering its systems on a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), fixed monthly fee lease, or buy-out basis. All our solutions are accompanied by comprehensive maintenance services, to ensure the solutions run 365 days a year. We are currently operational in seven countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, and Ivory Coast, and have recently launched in South Africa and Tanzania.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Manager who will oversee the construction of a 15MWp ground-mount grid-tied solar PV plant, ensuring timely completion within budget and compliance with HSSE standards. The incumbent will manage the complete project lifecycle, including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and the Oamp;M.

Key responsibilities:

1.Project Planning, Execution and Reporting:

  • Develop and execute project plans, outlining timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Supervise and manage the entire construction process and the subsequent operation and maintenance of the ground-mount solar PV plant, ensuring adherence to design specifications, timelines, budget, and HSSE standards.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, based on their skills and project requirements.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation actions, collaborating with stakeholders throughout the process.
  • Implement and oversee quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet industry standards and specifications. Conduct regular quality assessments and address issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation and prepare regular progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.

2.Infrastructure Development:

  • Oversee the establishment of connection infrastructure, including a new 3km MV overhead electrical line, a step-down MV/3.3 kV transformation cabin, and associated components.
  • Manage the supply, installation, and maintenance of all required infrastructure elements, such as access roads, trenches, perimeter fence, CCTV, and lighting.

3. Budgeting, Resource Allocation, Financial Management:

  • Manage project budgets, monitor project expenditures and financial performance, ensure alignment with the allocated budget, and identify/address potential cost overruns.

4. Contract Management:

  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and terms throughout the project lifecycle.

5. Schedule, Change, and Timeline Management:

  • Develop project schedules and timelines, ensuring alignment with overall project goals.
  • Monitor progress against established milestones and make adjustments as needed.
  • Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and budget, assessing their impact and executing actions to ensure the project’s timely completion

6.Health, Security, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:

  • Implement each segment of work following a specific approved method statement and enforce health, security, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and permits

7.Project Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation.
  • Prepare regular progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.

8.Change Management:

  • Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and budget effectively.
  • Assess the impact of changes and communicate adjustments to the project team and stakeholders
  • Other tasks as may be assigned by the Head of Technical or the Country Coordinator.

Requirements

1. Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field (preferably Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Engineering Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (would be an added advantage)

2. Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 10 years' experience in power system installations (preferably in utility-scale power plant construction).
